Last Epoch Guide For Beginners: All Needed Before Starting The Grind
Last Epoch - one of the big three ARPGs among Path of Exile and Diablo IV – has just launched its second season a few days prior. In this journey to the continent of Eterra, there will definitely a variety of things to start with which may cause confusion here and there to players, especially to those who just put their hands on an ARPG for the first time. If that is the case, welcome to our guide on Last Epoch.
I. Getting Started
If you are a veteran to the genre, luckily Last Epoch does share a few common mechanics that are also in other titles. If not, let's hop in.
Offline/Online: This is the 2 play modes of the game. In offline mode, you are freely able to modify the game based on your desire. A Full 4 Potential gear - specific modification to boss statistics - all is there for you to modify whereas its other counterpart - Online - is where the main player base and its main events take place. Since this is a shared host server, no mods are available though.
Selecting a Realm: With this, there happens to be only 2 options. The morely recommended The Cycle 1.0 (or the incoming 1.1) will always have all the newly seasonal content available, yet the character here will be moved into The Legacy Cycle at the end of the season with all of its loots, Gold and Favor. In the Legacy Cycle - you are guaranteed that the character is saved with all of its data from the latest cycle.
Game Mode: The Normal Mode is by default the game's main content - or if you are in seek for some hardcore experience, go big and bold with Hardcore's permadeath feature: once you die, you are removed to the Normal league and prohibited from joining the Hardcore realm with the same character again.
II. Character Building
There are five main classes, with each of the main classes having 3 sub-class. These sub-classes are enabled during the campaign's chapter 3. BUT BE AWARE that once you have chosen your sub-class, this option is undoable as well as once you have chosen your Mastery, you are allowed to put your Passive Points into other sub-classes of your main class as well - but just to a certain degree since you are locked from access to other Mastery's Unique skills.
Progress through the Campaign of the game rewards you with Passive Points, Idol Slots and Attribute Stats (from first completion of the Lagoon Boss in Chapter 8), but one thing to consider is that you are not mandatory locked by the campaign - which means that you can technically "skip" it by having a carrier teleporting you to the map event and get it done - then you can get your character prepared well for the endgame.
Skills: Each individual skill in the game has for itself a Skill Tree, with different nodes to suit your own playstyle to the build. Also, each skill requires a certain amount of experience to "level up", providing you with more points to put into your Skill Tree. YET BEWARE that if you intend to "respec" or "de-specialize" a skill, you need to get the experience for the points once again.
Gearing: There are 7 items grading in Last Epoch, being in the order from "lowest valued" to "highest valued" with gray for Common, blue for Magic, gold for Rare, purple for Exalted, green for Set Item, orange for a Unique and dark pink for Legendary items. Additionally, a Unique with Legendary Potential (LP) can be upgraded to a Legendary Item through Temporal Sanctum - as well as a Unique with Weaver's Will can evolve itself into a Legendary item but with random stats.
Blessing: After defeating a boss in each timeline, you are rewarded with a bonus additional passive to the character, varying from Resistance to certain damage into loot rate modification. This is not a one-time thing and can be done over and over again for the best rolls.
III. Monoliths
For Monoliths, it is the center of endgame contents. Upon encountering each Monolith, you are featured with a branching web of Echoes - which are basically just maps but with certain modifications like a specific range of rewards, glyphs and EXP.
There happens to be another version of this, being the Empowered Monoliths. You gain the access to this content once you have completed one of the three Lv90 timeline, then reaching the Forth of Empower sitting in the middle of the three maps. By then you can grind in certain timeline for a specifically selected group of rewards.
With this much information – and more to come later on, may your journey on Eterra be fun and joyous.
